NCC Fire Chiefs Association Meritorious Award

At the July 7th Monthly Meeting at Station 13, Claymont, President Dennis Godek and the Heroic Firefighter of the Year Award Committee present the the following awards.
The following individuals were recognized with the Meritorious Award:
Deputy Chief Bill Anderson Jr. of the Christiana Fire Company was recognized for his actions on a multiple dwelling fire with people trapped on September 18, 2015 at 0200 hours. Engine 12 and Ladder 12 had arrived to find an apartment on fire on the second floor with fire showing from the balcony with the floor balcony on fire.
Searches were started and an attack line was stretched. In addition command had received reports that people had jumped from the second floor and were injured in the rear yard.
Deputy Chief Anderson was the second chief on the assignment and went to the third floor above the fire. Deputy Chief Anderson entered the apartment above the fire with zero visibility and heat from the extending fire. Deputy Chief Anderson heard a groan and went to the sound in which he found an unconscious male and removed him to the outside and eventually down two flight of stairs to the first floor.
A-9 and Medic 2 treated and transported the patient to Christiana ER and once stabilized the patient was transferred to Crozer Burn Center in Chester PA. The patient suffered multiple serious injuries but made a full recovery.
