Hobb Ryan Dinner 2013 By Anthony R Guzzo The Hobb Ryan dinner was held in the Cheswold Fire Company hall on Sunday, April 8, 2013 at 3 pm. This is a social “get together” for fire company members with 40 or more years of service and ladies of the auxiliaries with 25 or more years of service. It is usually held the Sunday after Easter each year. This year’s gathering included 303 people with 9,416 years of service. It was pointed out that the Cheswold Fire Company workers, who served the dinner represented another 629 years of service. A grand total of 10, 045 years of service, including 57 people with over 50 years, 19 people with over 60 years of service enjoyed the social. Attendees included Bill Fraser (Aetna), 75 years, J. Wallace Hudson (Clayton), 71 years, Clarence Swatka (Townsend), 76 years, and Elaine Jones (Greenwood) and Lou Amabili (Hockessin) with 65 years each. After the introduction and statistics were announced by Lou Amabili, Penny Rodimak offered the blessing and the dinner began.The dinner included the usual Crab Imperial (specialty of the house), Chicken Cordon Blue, or Roast Beef. These were accompanied by Green beans, Mashed potatoes & gravy and pickled red beets, rolls and butter. Thank you to the Cheswold Fire Company and the Cheswold Ladies Auxiliary for another superb job. We look forward to the Twentieth Anniversary Hobb Ryan Dinner on Sunday, April 27, 2014.
